With Monopoly just turning 80 this year, many real-life business lessons can be learned from the classic money-loving board game, which by now has come out in 47 languages, and has been sold in 114 countries.

Brian Valentine, 30, the 8th-grade teacher from Washington, D.C. who was the American representative placed third at the Monopoly World Championships in Macau, offers a few tips:
“Know what your goal is, keep your eye on the ball, and do it without being a bully,” says Valentine. He also gave us some specific strategies to win at both Monopoly and life.

Picturing Change

Mohsen Makhmalbaf, the well-known Iranian director, writer and human rights activist was the head of the Israeli Feature Film Competition jury at the 31st Haifa International Film Festival. The festival screened a retrospective of Makhmalbaf’s work, as well as his latest film, The President.
Makhmalbaf has made more than 30 movies in 10 countries such as Afghanistan, Israel and Georgia, and has angered the Iranian government and other extremists. “I want to change the world. I don’t want to make films so I can be a filmmaker. I want to make films so I can change the world,” he says.
He works in many different styles, and focuses on the responsibility of the individual.

Do the Salsa

Everybody loves Meir Adoni. Or at least his TV persona. Being a judge on the show Games of Chef worked for Adoni just like MasterChef worked for Chef Haim Cohen. It turned Adoni into the next best thing after ‘Uncle Haim’. But unlike Cohen, who cooks mostly very simple food, eating at one of Adoni’s restaurants always seemed to me like visiting a strange land. His dishes are complex works-of-art, with as many ingredients as possible, and molecular cuisine techniques.
The big question though is whether all this really works. My answer is simple: yes, yes, and one more time - yes.

You Spin me Right Round
By JUDITH WAGNER

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words, and that which cannot remain silent.” (Victor Hugo). Dean Brown, the owner of B-Side, totally agrees with this quote. There are a lot of artists in Florentin, and there is no better place in Tel Aviv for his vinyl shop. On September 17, he opened a gallery called “Spinning Color.” The gallery presents an exhibit of Israeli paintings on vinyl records. In this gallery, you can see the works of lots of artists, such as Natalie Eichengreen, Bettina Tita and Maurielle Streetart, as well as the paintings of Idan Lightman. The different styles and techniques that the artists used can be seen on the wall at B-Side, until they are sold. I spoke with Dean Brown, and he told me a little about his store and the vinyl artwork.
